When one member of the Fresh Digital team finds an interesting article about marketing or web
design, it often sparks a lively debate around the office — so when Amy sent us this blog about
moving away from WordPress in 2026, we had a great conversation that we would like to share
with you! Read on for our thoughts about WordPress, building and maintaining websites, and
What makes a good platform?
“Why is WordPress so popular?”
WordPress has lots of benefits — it’s free, and highly customisable due to the thousands of
plugins available. It is also easy to install, and it can do some really exciting things in the hands of
a professional.
“So… why are people moving away from WordPress?”
The main concern seems to be the very same plugins that make it so versatile! Many websites
built on WordPress use a number of plugins that all need updating, and when one breaks, it can
cause problems.
There is also a concern that, because WordPress is so popular, hackers are focusing on
exploiting any weaknesses in the platform that they can find.
“Do we need to be concerned?”
Ultimately, the Fresh Digital team don’t think so! We think that, provided you have a
professional maintaining your website, you have very little to worry about. Here at Fresh, we
have some very creative and talented people who build and maintain websites all day long —
they are experts in fixing problems, keeping everything updated with the latest patches to
mitigate any security issues, and answering any questions that our clients might have. We can
build you a WordPress website that functions well, looks beautiful, and fulfils any criteria that
you might have for your business. One final important point to remember — whilst some
criticisms of WordPress are reasonable, it is worth noting that many of the platform’s critics are
trying to sell an alternative!
